Teen Vaping Survey Results Are In

The results from Michigan's test survey were posted yesterday by the Journal for Tobacco Control. The study included 3,800 teenage students who had vaped at one point. The main objective of the study was to find out exactly what teens are vaping. The findings are surprising to say the least.

Here's What The Study Shows

  • Teens are more likely to vape fruity flavors over traditional cigarette flavors like tobacco or menthol
  • Only a fraction of teens vaped e-liquid containing nicotine
  • Over 65% of teens who vaped only vaped flavoring
  • Federal estimates of how many teens vape maybe blown out of proportion because of mistaken assumptions that all teens vape with nicotine
  • Only 7% of teens have vaped marijuana
  • Youth Vaping has caused a steady decline in youth tobacco smoking

What Does This All Mean?

As it stands there are several health organizations who are running anti-vaping campaigns targeted at teens. These results propose a strong challenge to contest the assumption that all users of vapor products are inhaling nicotine. The study also challenges any claims made about vaping being a new vehicle for another nicotine epidemic. When asked to comment the CDC questioned whether many teens know the exact content of what they're vaping. They cited a small study suggesting mislabeling of e-juice containers was not uncommon.

Youth vaping is still a problem. There are already studies being conducted to see if vaping encourages teens to try smoking regular cigarettes. This study also shows that health organizations may need to rethink their strategy when it comes to preventing kids from vaping.

I would bet that most teens who vape don’t start smoking cigarettes & here’s why. The study above mentions the kids vaping fruity flavors without the nicotine. So, if they’re not into the nicotine then they certainly aren’t going to be into the TASTE of cigarettes!? Hello!? Now, that said – kids will be kids. They think they’re immortal. They want to be “cool”. Parents are going to disapprove. Hukkahs have soared in popularity. So, CDC says this about Hukkah Smoke & Cancer:
“The charcoal used to heat tobacco in the hookah increases the health risks by producing smoke that contains high levels of carbon monoxide, metals, and cancer-causing chemicals. A typical 1-hour-long hookah smoking session involves 200 puffs, while an average cigarette is 20 puffs.”
So, they want to continue to demonize, over regulate, & eventually restrict use of all vapor products- including all nicotine FREE e-juice (see the posts last week about the FDA fines, taxation, & regulation overload on ALL e-juice- including NICOTINE FREE E-JUICE & vapor- related “paraphernalia” by way of labeling it a “tobacco product”). They don’t hesitate to beat us over the head regarding the danger of tobacco products and charcoal in relation to the Hukkah. You’d think they’d be somewhat relieved that kids are vaping tobacco free, charcoal free, nicotine free products. But no. Nope, they aren’t relieved. In fact, they’ll continue to perform studies to confirm their own biased narrative until they restrict or ban vaping. What has a ban ever done to the popularity of a certain product or activity among rebellious teens? That said, I was 12 when I smoked my first cigarette in a dare. I was still smoking full flavored 100s up until about 4 years ago- at age 25. As an anxious chain smoker, you can imagine my amazement when my husband mentioned to me one day that I hadn’t smoked a cigarette for a couple of days. I hadn’t even noticed. I quit smoking after over a decade of (at least one to one & a half pack(s) per day) cigarettes ALL because of vaping. I didn’t plan to.
I just didn’t want to ruin the flavor of my vape.

Have been vaping for three years, I started smoking ciggs when I was 14, i smoked until i was 23 and a half, since then i dont have my morning 15mins coughing spell with my first cigg of the day. I run every morning, and i dont have the allergies that i use too. Seriously im not preaching but vaping is so much safe then smoking ciggerettes! I dont want under age minors vaping unless they had already been smoking cigarettes, its a safer alternative then smoking ciggs, but if ur a minor please dont start vaping cause it exhausts a big cloud,or looks cool. Its a smoking alternative. Thanks for the opportunity to express my feelings

I started smoking when I was 14 I am now 58. I stopped smoking almost a year ago and started vaping. I started at 18mg and I am now at 3mg. Nothing in the past has worked not pills not gum not patches. Back then big tobacco was all about how cool it was to smoke and pushing cigs I could walk in a store and get them with no problems. Nicotine what was that they didn’t talk about it much less all the other poisons they added to it all the while knowing that it was dangerous.
